CARSON, Calif. -- The Cal State Monterey Bay baseball team looked to avoid the 3-game sweep at the hands of Cal State Dominguez Hills on Sunday afternoon with
Ryan Arambula on the mound.
Arambula had the best outing of his season going seven strong innings with one earned run (two total) and four strikeouts as he left with a 4-2 lead. However, the Otter bullpen could not hold the 2-run lead as they allowed the Toros to comeback and tie the game at 4-4 in the bottom of the ninth, sending the game into extra innings for the second time in the series.
The Otter found paydirt in the eleventh inning on a sacrifice fly by
Ryan Winkler that scored
Josh Heinz, giving CSUMB a 5-4 lead.
Drew Kozain came in with two runners on base needed three outs to complete the save. The senior was able to get a strikeout and a flyout before a walk loaded the bases. Kozain was able to come through in the clutch by getting Daryl Donerson to ground into a fielder's choice to give CSUMB a 5-4 win.

LEADING OFF... Arambula had his longest outing of the season by lasting seven innings. He also allowed a season low one earned run in Sunday's no-decision.
ON DECK... With the win on Sunday the Otters avoid their first sweep of the season.
IN THE HOLE... Jordan Esposo and
Zakry Taylor lead the Otter with three hit afternoons at the plate. Five different Otters recorded an RBI in Sunday's win.
THE LAST WORD... "
Ryan Winkler's sac fly which produced the game winning run was clutch. We struggled to produce in those spots for most of the series and for Winkler to get it done was exactly what we needed. Kozain came in with runners on first and second and nobody out in the 11th and stepped up big to get the final three outs in the most pressure spot of the weekend. This was as big of win as we've had all year."

THEY'VE GOT NEXT... Monterey Bay will remain on the road as they battle CCAA North opponent San Francisco State in a four game series beginning on Thursday, April 13.
