SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. -- The Cal State Monterey Bay baseball team kicked off it run through the CCAA North Division with a doubleheader against San Francisco State On Saturday afternoon. The Otters were able to fight back in game one, winning 9-6. However, the Otters' fate was not as fortunate in game two as the visitor's fell 6-2.
CSUMB held a comfortable 5-1 lead heading into the final three innings of game one after a nice outing by
Bryan Granger silenced the Gator bats. After nice sixth inning from reliever
Drew Kozain, SFSU woke up and tied the game with four runs in the seventh inning. The hosts weren't done as they started the eighth inning with a leadoff home run to take a 6-5 lead. All was not lost, however, as the Otters were able strike the Gator bullpen as well to plate four runs in the top of the ninth inning to steal a 9-6 win.
Game two began with a quiet three innings before San Francisco State erupted with four runs in the fourth inning to take a 4-0 lead on CSUMB. Gator pitching was able to keep the Otter bats quiet until the top of the ninth inning when CSUMB attempted to make a charge. Monterey Bay was able to plate two runs in the top of the ninth inning but it was too little too late as the comeback fell short in a 6-2 loss.

LEADING OFF... CSUMB starting pitcher
Bryan Granger made his first start since March 4 against Cal State San Marcos. While Granger was tagged with a no-decision, he did pitch well through five innings allowing a run on three hits with two strikeouts.
ON DECK... Today marks the first series against a CCAA North Division team since spliting with Cal State East Bay on Feb. 24-26
IN THE HOLE... By going hitless in Friday's game two,
Myles Hager ended his 17-game hit streak. The marks the longest by any player this season (beating
Max Sanderson's 14) and goes down as the second longest in program history.
THE LAST WORD... We were able to manufacture a few runs in the 9th of game 1 and we handed it off to Narahara for a clean save. Granger threw well and it was nice to have him back in the rotation. In game 2, we weren't able to get anything going of their starter, Hernandez. He threw a great game and deserves a lot of credit. We needed to match him on the mound, unfortunately we gave up a big inning in the 4th. Our ninth inning rally fell a bit short." -

THEY'VE GOT NEXT... Monterey Bay and SF State will wrap up the 4-game series on Saturday with a doubleheader set for noon.
