IRVINE, Calif. -- To finish up the three–day trip to Southern California, the Cal State Monterey Bay Women's Water Polo team made a stop at Concordia–Irvine for a single game Sunday morning. CSUMB jumped out to a 7–1 lead and never looked back on its way to a 13–6 victory, coming home with a 3–2 record over five games on the weekend.
Goals by
Nicole Koorndyk (Claremont HS) and
Adrianna Craft (Belmont, Mich. / Rockford Senior HS) in the first quarter put the Otters on top 2–1. The second quarter brought an offensive outpouring from CSUMB as they netted five goals, featuring two from
Bree Hogervorst (Ramona, Calif. / Mountain Valley Academy) to stake a 7–1 lead going into halftime.
CSUMB tacked on three more goals in the third frame, two from
Cami Kellogg (Felton, Calif. / San Lorenzo Valley HS), to build the lead to 10–2. While the Eagles were able to record four goals in the final quarter, three more from the Otter offense secured the 13–6 win.
Both
Amanda Jennings (Oakley, Calif. / Freedom HS) and
Kat Lloyd (Orinda, Calif. / Miramonte HS) saw time in cage, recording 12 and three saves, respectively.
Ashton Palmer (Salt Lake City, Utah / Cottonwood HS) contributed two goals in the win.
The Otters move their record to 5–11. Monterey Bay will be back in the pool Saturday, March 14, for its first Western Water Polo Association game when they take on Sonoma State in Rohnert Park. First sprint is set for noon.
