CSUMB's 16-Game Winning Streak Comes To An End

SEASIDE, Calif.
- The Cal State Monterey Bay women's basketball team fell to the Broncos of Cal Poly Pomona, 58-55, on Friday night at the Kelp Bed.

The Otters are now 16-1 overall and 12-1 against California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) opponents while the Broncos improve to 14-2, 11-1 in conference action.

Senior #LaShawn Johnson# scored a team-high 16 points along with her seven rebounds. Senior #Julie Heurung# added eight points and four rebounds.  Sophomore #Holly Holcomb# pulled down a team-high nine rebounds on top of her seven points.  Senior #Michelle Santizo# dished out five assists.

The Broncos led throughout most the first half with the Otters tying the game six times.

The Otters came out with an 11-0 run to turn around a one-point halftime deficit making it 39-29 on Heurung's jumper.

CSUMB was unable to make a basket for the next eight minutes as the Broncos went on a 14-0 run.

With 1:19 remaining, the Otters came within two points at 57-55 on a pair of free throws by Heurung.

With both teams shooting 33.3 percent from the field, the deciding factor came from behind the 3-point line where Pomona shot 9-for-14 (64.3 percent) while the Otters finished with 3-for-16 (18.8 percent).

The Broncos had a slight edge on the rebounding with a 35 to 34 advantage over CSUMB.

The Broncos were led by Reyana Colson with 25 points, nine rebounds and five assists. J.J. Judge contributed 10 points.

The Otters return to action on Saturday, Jan. 29, hosting Cal State San Bernardino at 7:30 p.m.
