LA JOLLA, Calif. – Despite outshooting UC San Diego 7-6 in the second half, the Cal State Monterey Bay women's soccer team fell 4-0 to the Tritons on Sunday afternoon at RIMAC Field.
The Otters received shots on goal by #Sarah Alderson#, #Kyla Flores# and #Marlina Massagli#.
“The women were sluggish but battled very well,” said head coach #Artie Cairel#. “Three point blank misses would have changed things for us.
“We played like a team who has played five out of their last six games on the road and we look forward to home games this upcoming weekend to rebound.”
UCSD's Shelby Wong's goal in the 25th minute gave the Tritons a 1-0 lead. Roughly five minutes later, Jessica Wi scored on a soft shot to the back of the goal as the Tritons pushed their lead to 2-0.
UCSD resumed its scoring spree just 90 seconds into the second period. Sarah McTigue launched a shot to the back corner of the net, extending the Triton lead to 3-0. Hernandez capped off UCSD's afternoon of offense in the 54th minute, knocking a well-placed header to the left of CSUMB's keeper, #Andrea Davis#.
Davis recorded four saves in goal as the Otters were outshot 12-9 in the game.
CSUMB (2-3-1, 1-1 CCAA) returns home on Friday, Sept. 18, hosting Cal State L.A. at 12:30 p.m.
