Otters Drop 69-57 Decision To Cal Poly Pomona

POMONA, Calif.
– The Cal State Monterey Bay women's basketball team was unable to snap out of its losing skid on Friday night, falling to the Broncos of Cal Poly Pomona by a score of 69-57.

With the loss, the Otters fell to 8-7 overall, and 3-6 against California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) opponents.  The Broncos improve to 10-8 overall and 6-3 in conference play.

The Otters were led by junior #Helen Suarez#, scoring a season-high with 24 points and adding four assists. Senior #Dana Andrews# recorded her second double-double of the season, with 17 points and 10 rebounds.  

Down by six, CSUMB ran off six straight points on a sophomore #LaShawn Johnson# free throw, three-point basket by junior #Denelle Baker#, with the final stretch cover on a Suarez jumper with left on 10:49 left on the first-half clock.

Cal Poly Pomona quickly responded, going on a 14-3 run at the 6:47 mark. The Broncos took a 38-27 lead into the locker room.

The Otters opened the second half with a Suarez layup and were able to get as close as six points on a three-pointer by Johnson with 14:41 remaining. Once again, the Broncos pulled away by scoring the next eight points for a 15 point-cushion.

CSUMB connected on eight three-pointers, tying a season-high. 

The Otters travel to San Bernardino for their next game, as they face off against Cal State San Bernardino on Jan 24, with tip-off slated for 4:30 p.m.
