Nine stroke lead disappears late, denying Otter repeat

FINAL RESULTS

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. — A tough final day cost Cal State Monterey Bay a chance to defend its title as Cal State East Bay rallied back to earn a 3-stroke victory at the 2025 CCAA Men's Golf Championship Tournament Wednesday afternoon at Sandpiper Golf Club.

The Otters entered the final round with what appeared to be a commanding 9-stroke lead, but saw that disappear when they played the front nine at 6-over while East Bay was going 1-under. The Otters finished the day at 12-over 300, the first time they shot 300 in a round in three seasons.

Senior Tommy Kimberling (Rancho Cucamonga/Los Osos HS) rallied to card a 1-under 35 on the back nine, but he was the only Otter to finish a nine in the red Wednesday. Both he and junior Colin Huang (Corona Del Mar HS) led CSUMB with final round 73s and finished the 54-hole event tied for eighth.

Senior Wilhelm Berg von Linde (Stockholdm, Sweden), was CSUMB's top finisher over all in sixth place (+4).

Next up for the Otters is the NCAA Super Regional May 8–10 at the Victoria Club in Riverside.
