McNeal’s Big Rebounding Day Not Enough At San Bern

Jayden McNeal pulls down 15 boards in 64-54 setback

SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. — Junior forward Jayden McNeal (Boise/College of Southern Idaho) enjoyed a huge day on the glass with 15 rebounds, but it wasn't enough overcome a slow start in a 64–54 loss at Cal State San Bernardino Saturday in Coussoulis Arena.

McNeal's 15 boards rank No. 13 all-time in Otter history. They were the most by an Otter since Rebecca Castillo pulled down 15 in a win at Holy Names on Nov. 23, 2019.

After a slow CSUMB start spotted San Bernardino an 18–6 lead through the first quarter, the Otters kept the Coyotes in shouting distance for the balance of the game. They kept the deficit between six and 12 points for the final 30 minutes, but couldn't make their way over the hump.

In addition to McNeal, that Otters got 12-point performances from Jordan Beaumont (San mateo/Aragon HS), A'ajah Slocum (Fresno/Hoover HS) and Cheyenne Whitfield (Lynwood HS/West L.A. College).

CSUMB returns to The Kelp Bed to open a 4-game homestand against Cal State San Marcos Thursday (Jan. 23). Tip-off will be at 5:30 p.m. as the opener of doubleheader action with the Otter men.
