SEASIDE, Calif. – For the third consecutive season the Cal State Monterey Bay baseball team claimed the regular season CCAA championship. The Otters needed a sweep over Cal State East Bay and that is exactly what they did, downing the Pioneers, 2-0, Saturday afternoon at the Otter Sports Complex.
Ryan Sleeman set the tone on the mound in his first full start of the season, allowing just two hits and striking out six in six innings.
Daniel Flores combined with
Drew Aguiar (1-0) and
Vincent Cicolello for three scoreless innings of relief.
Chase Lindemann and
Kyle Barileau collected two hits apiece in their final regular season appearance at the Otter Sports Complex.
Back-to-back doubles from Barileau and Lindemann proved to be the difference in the eighth inning as Barileau plated
Nico Hartojo and Lindemann scored Barileau.
This is the Otters third consecutive CCAA regular season title, and their fifth in program history (2013, 2018, 2022, 2023, 2024). They have now guaranteed themselves the #1 seed in the CCAA tournament
The Otters will open the CCAA Tournament on Thursday, May 9, at 11 a.m. Cal State Pomona will be the tournament host this season with all games being played at Scolinos Field.
