SEASIDE, Calif. – The Cal State Monterey Baseball team used timely hitting and solid pitching to take the series from Cal State Los Angeles with a 5-3 victory on Sunday from the Otter Sports Complex.
After the series, CSUMB improves to 21-11 overall and 17-7 in CCAA play.
Chase Lindemann was the lone Otter to collect a multi-hit game as he went 2-for-5 on the afternoon.
Jaden Sheppard tallied another home run and
Jacob Dressler and
JJ Engman scored and drove in a run.
Mitchell Torres (3-0) tossed five innings, allowing two runs – one earned on six hits and struck out two in the winning effort.
Aidan Lee earned his second save of the series, pitching a flawless ninth with two strikeouts.
Sheppard continued his powerful series by drilling a two-out, two-run home run off the scoreboard in the second inning to give the Otters the early 2-0 lead.
CSUMB tacked on another in the third when Engman sailed a sac-fly to right to plate
Jacob Dressler.
Dressler then was on the hitting end as he smacked a two-out double down the left field line to score
Cole Murchison.
Engman crossed the plate in the fifth when he scored on a sac-fly off the bat of
Nico Hartojo.
The Otters will hit the road to face Cal State Dominguez Hills for a four-game series in Carson. The conference set will begin on Friday, April 5, with first pitch slated for 3 p.m.
