Five In Double Figures Not Enough In Carson

Blake Jones scores career-high 18, but Toros hold on, 77-68

CARSON, Calif. — Cal State Monterey Bay placed five scorers in double figures, but it wasn't quite enough to upend 2024 NCAA Tournament qualifier Cal State Dominguez Hills as the Toros held on late for a 77–68 win Thursday night in the Torodome.

CSUMB rallied from 13 points behind to within one point down the stretch, but the Toros out-scored the Otters 11–5 over the final 90 seconds to escape.

Senior forward Blake Jones (Canberra, Aust.) just missed his second double-double of the season with a career-high 18 points and a game-high nine rebounds. Junior guard Ariya Briscoe (Portland, Ore./West Valley College) came off the bench to add a season-high 12 points.

Konner Baroni (Placer HS) chipped in 11 points while Jaden Tengan (Santa Clarita Christian) and Javon Johnson (De La Salle HS) each scored 10.

Dominguez Hills threatened to put the game away in the first half before the Otters finished the opening stanza with a 9–0 run to go into the lockerroom down just 38–34. The game remained within two possessions for the entire second half until Toros made eight free throws in the final 20 seconds to keep the Otters at bay.

THE GAME WAS STATISTICALLY OVER WHEN… As is tradition, we use the Bill James Safe Lead Formula in this space to determine when the game was over statistically.
