Otters In Third At Dennis Rose Invitational

Three Otters finish first round in the red

October 21, 2024

WAIKOLOA, Hawaii — Three Cal State Monterey players finished in the red to help the Otters claim third place after the opening round of the Dennis Rose Invitational Monday at the Waikoloa Village Golf Course.

Sophomore Tony Tao (Eastvale/Western Christian HS) and senior Simon Björken (Hudiksval, Sweden) led the way for CSUMB, with each shooting a 2-under 70. Tommy Kimberling (Rancho Cucamonga/Los Osos HS) added a 71. Wilhelm Berg von Linde (Stockholm, Sweden) closed the Otter scoreline with a 73.

The quartet left CSUMB entering the final round at a respectable 4-under 284. They'll have a ton of work to do to catch the leader, however, as No. 1 ranked Colorado Christian carded a remarkable seven eagles en route to an 18-under round of 270 to earn an 11-stroke lead over second place Cal State East Bay at 7-under.

Individually, Björken and Tao are tied for 11th place, four strokes off the pace set by Sungyeop Cho and Sangha Park of Colorado Christian. Kimberling (16th) and Berg von Linde (28th) also are in the top half of the 106-golfer field.

The Dennis Rose Invitational concludes with 18 holes Tuesday. The Otters will then fly from the Big Island to Oahu for the Sharks Shootout Oct. 24–26.
