Miguel Drives in Four to Lead Otters to Series Opening Win Over Chico

Every Otter reaches base as CSUMB cruises to 9-3 victory

SEASIDE, CALIF. – Cal State Monterey Bay Baseball ran their home winning streak to nine in a row, downing the Chico State Wildcats 9-3 Thursday afternoon at the Otter Sports Complex.

The Otters offense came out of the gates primed and ready to play, putting up eight runs in the first four innings. Brady Miguel (Hollister/San Benito HS) led the charge with a pair of doubles and four runs driven in. Nico Hartojo (Arvada, Colo./MPC) finished his day a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate, scoring twice and driving in one.

Ryan Platero (Hollister/MPC) continued to show why he is at the top of the Otter rotation, tossing six innings and fanning five while walking none. Colby Harrison (Chico/Sacramento CC) got the nod to shut the door against his hometown team, earning his first save of the season and striking out five over the final three frames.

THE GAME WAS OVER WHEN… Nico Hartojo singled KW Quilici home to push the score to 9-3 in the bottom of the seventh.

MIGUEL FINDS A WAY… Despite serving as the Otters leadoff hitter, Brady Miguel was still able to lead the Otters in RBI for the afternoon, driving in four. This was Miguel's third 4+ RBI game of the season, as he now ranks second on the team with 28 runs driven in for the season.

PERFECT DAY FOR NICO… First baseman Nico Hartojo had an excellent day at the plate, going 3-for-3 and reaching base in every plate appearance (three hits and one walk). With the strong performance today, Hartojo's on-base percentage skyrocketed to .494, good for second best for the Otters.

PILING UP THE KNOCKS… The Otters reached double-digit hits again today, notching 10 knocks against the Wildcats, half of which were of the extra-base variety. CSUMB now has tallied double-digit hits in nine of their last 11 contests, as the offense continues to roll against CCAA opposition.

THEY'VE GOT NEXT… The Otters and Wildcats will square off in a doubleheader tomorrow, starting at 12 P.M. Game one is slated for nine innings, while game two is slated for seven.
