#18 Otter Bats Come to Life in Game Two of Doubleheader Split with #4 Coyotes

Nico Hartojo leads Otter offense in split with CSUSB 6-2, 14-6

SAN BERNARDINO, CALIF. –
The Otters were able to earn a split against the fourth ranked Cal State San Bernardino Coyotes in games two and three of their four game series, falling 6-2 and winning 14-6 Saturday at Fiscalini Field.

Both squads seemed to be on level footing in game two of the series, as a second inning JJ Engman (Renton, Wash./Shoreline College) solo shot tied things up at one apiece. The highly explosive San Bernardino offense was able to generate their first offensive breakthrough of the series in the fourth, putting up five runs to build their largest lead of the series. Colby Harrison (Chico/Sacramento CC) came out of the bullpen to finish out the fourth, and remained in for the remainder of the contest, allowing no runs and just one hit over his 4.1 innings, but the Otters would muster up just one more run, as the game would end in favor of the Coyotes 6-2.

The Otters flipped the script in game two of the doubleheader, scoring three runs in the first two innings, before hanging up a nine run spot in the fourth frame. CSUMB got production from top to bottom in their lineup, including home runs from Sergio Solis (Ceres/Central Valley HS) and Nico Hartojo (Arvada, Colo./MPC). Nate Rohlicek (Gilbert, Ariz./UNR) took a no-hitter into the fourth inning, eventually tossing five full in the victory.

GAME ONE WAS OVER WHEN… The Otters left Brady Miguel on base after he led off the eighth inning with a single.

GAME TWO WAS OVER WHEN… Nico Hartojo launched a three run home run over the left field fence to cap a nine run inning and push the Otters ahead 12-0 in fourth.

FIVE HIT HARTOJO… Nico Hartojo continues to swing the hottest bat for the Otters, recording five hits in today's doubleheader. After scoring one of the Otters two runs in game one today, Nico was the driving force behind the Otters 14 run performance in game two, going 4-for-4, coming just a triple shy of the cycle, driving in three runs and scoring three times. It was Nico's third four hit ballgame of the season, all of which have come on the road.

KEEPING THEM IN IT… Colby Harrison put together his best outing of the spring on the mound, tossing a career-high 4.1 innings of scoreless baseball, keeping the Otter deficit consistent for the offense to attempt to mount a comeback. Harrison surrendered just one hit over those 4.1 innings. After a rocky start to his senior campaign, the veteran has settled down and proven to be a solid long relief option out of the pen for Coach Walt White

A SERGE IN THE LINEUP… Catcher Sergio Solis left the yard for the first time in his Otter career, launching a two run home run against the Coyotes as part of his two hit, three RBI game. It was Sergio's second multi-hit game of the season, as he has proven a solid asset to have in the lineup on Saturday doubleheaders.

THEY'VE GOT NEXT… The Otters will look for the series win over the Coyotes in game four tomorrow. First pitch is set for 12 PM at Fiscalini Field.
