Otters Battle to Day One Split at Bronco Invitational

Ainsworth and Eaton combine for eight goals in 10-7 victory over Austin and 14-3 loss to Brown

SANTA CLARA, CALIF. –
The Otters opened the Bronco Invitational with a split on Saturday, downing Austin College 10-7 and falling to #20 Brown 14-3 at the Sullivan Aquatic Center on the campus of Santa Clara University.

Monterey Bay opened the day winning a thriller over the Austin College Kangaroos. The Otters found themselves down 4-3 at halftime, but scored three unanswered goals in the third quarter and never looked back.

Allyson Ainsworth (West Sacramento/River City HS) continued her recent hot streak, scoring four goals in the victory. Kaya Eaton (San Diego/Helix HS) added her first hat trick as the duo connected for seven of the Otters 10 goals.  Megan Taylor (San Juan Capistrano/Capo Valley HS) made 13 stops in goal in the winning effort.

Game two pitted the Otters against the 20th ranked Brown Bears. The Otters scored the final goal of the first half and the opening goal of the second half, but it wasn't enough to keep up with the Bears offensive onslaught, as the game ended in favor of Brown 14-3.

Kaya Eaton scored what would be her fourth goal of the day in the contest, while fellow freshman Gabri Vincze (Newbury Park/Agoura HS) also found the back of the net. Megan Taylor made 14 saves while Grace Mensing (Cameron Park/Ponderosa HS) entered the game in goal with four minuted remaining and netted her first career goal, scoring as time expired at the end of the contest.

The Otters will be back in action tomorrow, taking on 19th ranked San Jose State at noon and host Santa Clara at 4:40 PM.
