Otters Drop Doubleheader, Series To Stanislaus State

Shorthanded pitching staff can’t slow Warriors in 9–6, 15–2 setbacks

SEASIDE, Calif. — Cal State Monterey Bay's depleted pitching staff couldn't hold off Stanislaus State for a second consecutive day as the Warriors swept a doubleheader, 9–6 and 15–2 Sunday at the Otter Sports Complex. The wins gave Stanislaus a 3–1 series victory.

CSUMB fell behind big early in both games but had a chance to win the second game when it loaded the bases with no outs trailing 9–5 in the eighth inning. But a double–play grounder allowed the Warriors to escape the jam allowing only one run as they held on for the win.

Stanislaus led 7–0 in the fourth inning and 11–2 after five innings of the nightcap and the Otters never found their way into the game.

Kokko Figueiredo (Fortuna HS/College of the Redwoods), Kyle Dean (Rancho Bernardo HS/BYU) and Brian Morley (Carmichael/Jesuit HS) each collected four hits for the Otters in the doubleheader. Figueiredo accounted for all of his hits by going 4–for–5 in the opener.

CSUMB will welcome Cal State East Bay for a 4–game, split series Mar. 15–17. The series begins with a single games at the Otter Sports Complex Friday with first pitch scheduled for 3 p.m.
