Red–Hot Sonoma State Can’t Miss In 97–61 Win Over Otters

Seawolves make 12–of–13 from the floor to start the second half

ROHNERT PARK, Calif. — A good start for Cal State Monterey Bay faded behind an insanely hot shooting night by Sonoma State as the Seawolves rolled to a 97–61 win Saturday night in The Wolves Den.

CSUMB jumped to a 13–5 lead out of the gate, but it was all Sonoma after that. SSU had taken a 48–34 lead by halftime. Things got crazy to start the second half as the Seawolves made 12 of their first 13 shots from the floor as part of a 24–3 run to begin the half.

The Otters never got closer than 30 points the rest of the way.

Jahvon Johnson (Clovis North HS) led three Otters in double figures with 12 points. Charlie Tooley (Granite Bay HS) added 11 points and a team–high five rebounds. Jared Williams reached double figures for the second time as an Otter with 10 points.

THE GAME WAS STATISTICALLY OVER WHEN… Jordan Hickman made a pair of free throws to put the Seawolves on top 75–43 with 13:35 to play.

GIVE AND TAKE… Not only has Charlie Tooley led the Otters in assists five times in their first six games, he has become quite the accomplished thief on the other end of the floor. Tooley had a career–high four steals Saturday night (after collecting three steals Friday at S.F. State) and now leads the team with 12 steals through six games.

DOUBLE CENTURY CLUB… Jahvon Johnson made one free throw Saturday night. It was the 200th free throw made of his career. That marks ranks No. 9 on the CSUMB career free–throws list

LEADERS OF THE RAFT… POINTS: Jahvon Johnson 12; REBOUNDS: Charlie Tooley 5; ASSISTS: Jahvon Johnson 3; BLOCKS: None; STEALS: Charlie Tooley 4.

THE LAST WORD… ""All credit goes to Sonoma. They played great basketball tonight. Unfortunately, we played very poorly at the same time. They looked like a team that had a big win last night and was riding high, while we looked like we had our hearts ripped out at S.F. State." – CSUMB Head Coach Isaac Williams

THEY'VE GOT NEXT… The Otters return home to host UC San Diego in a CCAA doubleheader Thursday, Nov. 29 in The Kelp Bed. Women's tipoff will be at 5:30 p.m. and men's tipoff will be at 7:30 p.m.
