Kind, Cortez Earn 4-Points in 6-0 Win at Holy Names

Otters have outscored opponents 12-3 through 3 games

HAYWARD, Calif. -- Hannah Kind (Bakersfield Christian HS) wasted no time in getting the Cal State Monterey Bay women's soccer team on the board by netting her first goal of the season at the 4:18 mark. The Otters kept their foot on the gas by scoring five more times in the game leading to their second 6-0 win of the season on Wednesday afternoon against Holy Names.

Ashlee Cortez (Trabuco Hills HS) hopped on the scoring trail at the 20:13 mark by netting her second goal of the season. Cortez sandwiched her goal with an assist to Kind before and an assist to Ashlee Schouten (South Lake Tahoe HS) after her goal, giving her a 4-point effort in the win.

Also with a 4-point game, Kind wrapped up the contest with her second goal of the game in the 89th minute to bring the score to a final of 6-0.

THE GAME WAS OVER WHEN... Jenna Viss (Waterford HS) scored five minutes after Schouten in the second half to bring the score to a 4-0 Otter lead.

FOUR SCORE... Today's 6-0 victory marks the first time CSUMB has scored at least four goals twice in a season in Division II era.

ASHLEE CONNECTION... Dating back to 2009, this is the first time where a player named Ashlee has assisted on a goal scored by a player named Ashlee (Ashlee Schouten from Ashlee Cortez at 54:44).

MATCH GAME... With their six goals today, the 2017 Otters have scored 12 goals through three games. That ties the goal output of the 2016 team in 13 fewer games. They have also beaten the output of the 2005 and 2011 team who scored seven goals during those seasons.

THE LAST WORD... "We were very pleased with the team effort on the field today. Our six goals were scored by five different players and we managed to shut out a very gritty and hard working Holy Names team. We took a step forward today and are continuing to mature as a team" -Head Coach Laura VanWart

THEY'VE GOT NEXT... Monterey Bay will return home for a nonconference tilt against the University of Bridgeport on Saturday, Sept. 9. Kick off is set for 2:00 p.m. at the Otter Sports Complex.
