Otters Score Early and Often in 15-5 Victory

Otters score 10 runs in first three innings

SEASIDE, Calif. -- With 12 games remaining in the regular season, the Cal State Monterey Bay baseball began an all important home-stretch with Sonoma State on Friday afternoon at the Otter Sports Complex. The Otters plate three runs in the first inning and never looked back en route to a 15-5 explosion in game one of the 4-game set.

CSUMB got help from two SSU errors in the bottom of the first inning which led to the 3-run inning. The Otters then doubled their first inning output in the second inning with a 6-run inning to take a 9-1 lead early on. It continued to be all Monterey Bay throughout as CSUMB scored one in the third inning and then five more runs in the sixth inning to put the game out of reach in the 15-5 final.

LEADING OFF... All but one spot in the lineup was able to get at least one hit. The lead off spot went 0-for-6 between the starter and the pinch-hitter

ON DECK... Multiple players had at least one RBI with Nick Vigo and Ruben Gonzalez driving in two, Darren Kriz and Hayden Duer contributing three RBI and Jacob Tonascia recorded four RBI including a 3-run home run in the sixth inning; his fifth of the season.

IN THE HOLE... Starter Bryan Granger (3-2) earned his third win of the season after tossing five and two-thirds innings of nine hit ball while allowing four runs with three strikeouts.
