POSTGAME INTERVIEW |
OTTERS vs. WILDCAT HIGHLIGHTS
SEASIDE, Calif. — Chico State opened the game on a 15–5 run and never looked back en route to a 15–5 victory over Cal State Monterey Bay Saturday night in The Kelp Bed. The game marked the season finale for the 2016–17 Otters.
The Otters trailed by as many as 27 points but battled their way back to within 12 before settling on the 15–point final margin.
Sophomore center
Gregg Polosky (San Ramon Valley HS) led three Otters in double figures with 15 points. Freshmen guards
Jahvon Johnson (Clovis North HS) and
Kevin Warren (Oakland/St. Mary's HS) joined him with 13 and 11 points respectively.
The Otters held the powerful Chico offense below its season scoring average of 75.2 points per game entering the night but had trouble converting from the field themselves, shooting just 31 percent from the floor and 25 percent from beyond the arc.
THE GAME WAS STATISTICALLY OVER WHEN… Justin Briggs made a pair of free throws to increase Chico's lead to 70–56 with 44 seconds remaining.
NOT SENIOR NIGHT… Although Saturday night was final game of the 2016–17 season for CSUMB, it was not be a traditional senior night. All of the Otter seniors (
Jack Biebel,
Mateo Jones and
Evan Zeller) are medically redshirting this season.
IT'S TOUGH TO SAY GOODBYE… Regular season finales have been tough on the Otters at the NCAA Division II level. Since joining Division II for the 2004–05 season, the Otters have gone 3–9 in their final regular season games.
