Sanderson’s Four RBIs Propels Otters to 7-6 Win

Otters now 6-3 overall

POMONA, Calif. — The Cal State Monterey Bay baseball team avenged Thursday night's loss with a 7-6 win over sixth-ranked Cal Poly Pomona on Saturday evening. CSUMB jumped out to a 7-3 lead after scoring in the first four innings, including a 4-run second inning.

After Greg Steinbeck's (San Benito HS) start took him through five innings, the Otters got clutch relief pitching from Danny Thomas (Saint Bonaventure HS) and Drew Kozain (Redondo Union HS) who earned his first save of the season. Steinbeck earned the win and is now 2-0.

The Otters were backed by Max Sanderson's (Foothill HS) four RBIs which included a bases-clearing single in the second inning.

THE GAME WAS OVER WHEN... When Kozain got Brennan McKenzie to pop out to shortstop to end the game

LEADING OFF... Greg Steinbeck (2-0) pitched five innings, allowing five earned runs on nine hits and strikeout, earning his second win of the season

ON DECK: Along side Sanderson, Jordan Esposo (Monterey HS) had a 2-hit evening that included his first home run of the season; a solo shot in the fourth inning that proved to be the deciding run in the win

IN THE HOLE... After tonight's win, the Otters will battle Pomona in a rubber match, the second rubber match of the season for CSUMB

THEY'VE GOT NEXT... The Otters will end the 3-game series against the Broncos on Sunday, Feb. 19. First pitch is set for noon.
