SEASIDE, Calif. — The Cal State Monterey Bay baseball team picked up where they left off on Saturday by plating three runs in the first inning against Concordia University (Ore.) Saturday.
Ryan Winkler (Dougherty Valley HS) got the Otters started with a 2-run single and then came around to score later in the inning. In fact, Winkler was responsible for four of the five runs scored by CSUMB in Saturday's 5-0 win.
Jeffrey Ahern (Anderson HS) got the start and threw five innings of shutout ball with four strikeouts, leading to his first win of the season (1-0).
LEADING OFF: With Saturday's 5-0 win, the Otters found themselves on the right end of a shutout for the first time this season. Their overall record improves to 4-2.
ON DECK: Head Coach
Walt White used five different pitchers in today's game, all of which recorded at least one strikeout. Not to mention,
Kyle Narahara (Castro Valley HS) recorded four strikeouts in the top of the ninth inning due to a runner reaching on a wild pitch strike three.
IN THE HOLE: In addition to Winkler's 2-for-4, 2 run, 2 RBI day at the plate,
Hayden Duer (Davis HS) went 3-for-5 with a run scored and
Jordan Esposo (Monterey HS) contributed a 2-for-4 day as well.
THEY'VE GOT NEXT: The Otters will have a day of rest before traveling to Holy Names University on Tuesday, Feb. 14, for a single game against the Hawks. First pitch is set for 5:00 p.m.
