SEASIDE, Calif. — The Cal State Monterey Bay men's basketball team travels to Hayward this weekend for a Battle of the Bays rematch with Cal State East Bay Saturday (Jan. 14) in Pioneer Gym. Tipoff will be at 7:30 p.m. as the nightcap of men's/women's doubleheader action.

Fans who can't make it to East Bay for the game can listen online at OtterAthletics.com. Rob Ponce will call the play-by-play and Kirsten Fairchild will provide the color. East Bay will stream live video of the game on its Periscope channel.

Visit Gameday Central for links to live streams and stats.

PIONEER 3–DOT NOTES (9–6, 3–5 CCAA): After winning 7 of 8 and 9 of 11 to open the season, East Bay has cooled off with a 4–game losing streak entering a Wednesday nonconference tilt with NCAA Division III member UC Santa Cruz…enter the week ranked No. 3 in the CCAA with 132 3–pointers…NDNU transfer Sr./F Micah Dunhour begins the week as the CCAA's leading scorer at 16.8 ppg…he also ranks No. 7 in rebounding at 7.2 rpg.

WHEN LAST WE MET: East Bay shot a sizzling 69 percent (39–63) from the floor and blew the game open with a 53–point second half in a 95–74 win in The Kelp Bed on Dec. 2. Stephen Matthews scored a CSUMB team season–high 23 points. Micah Dunhour led five Pioneers in double figures with 26 points.

WHEN LAST WE PLAYED: The Otters and Cal State San Marcos played through nine ties and 13 lead changes before a late run gave led the Cougars to a 77–66 win in The Kelp Bed last Saturday night. Freshman guard Kevin Warren came off the bench to score 19 points.

THE GAME WAS STATISTICALLY OVER WHEN… Ethan Alvano's midrange jumper found the hoop to make it 74–58 San Marcos with 2:34 remaining.

NEW FEATURE: STATISTICALLY OVER… You'll notice a new feature in the CSUMB notebooks (and postgame recaps) called, The Game Was Statistically Over When…. This uses a formula created by famed sabermatician Bill James to calculate the precise second at which one team gained a lead which (statistically) could not be overcome.

THIS DATE IN OTTER HISTORY: File this one under statistical anomalies: CSUMB has played five times on January the 14th with four of those games coming against UC San Diego. The last time came on Jan. 14, 2012 where CSUMB fell in the closing seconds in RIMAC Arena, 71–67.

LIVING ON THE EDGE: The Otters finished last Saturday's game versus San Marcos with seven players available, two of whom had four fouls each.

BOMBS AWAY: Kevin Warren knocked down a personal best five 3–pointers Saturday versus San Marcos. That matches Stephen Matthews (Elk Grove/Sacramento HS) for the most by an Otter this season.

AMONG THE CCAA LEADERS: So./C Gregg Polosky is the highest ranked Otter on the CCAA statistical boards entering the week, checking in at No. 6 on the blocks chart (1.3 bpg). So./F Julian Ducree also cracks the Top 10s at No. 10 in both blocking (1.0 bpg) and rebounding (7.0 rpg)

AND THE LITTLE ONES SHALL LEAD THEM: With the entire senior class on track to medically redshirt the season, the Otter padawans will have to lead the way. The Otter roster now features just two active upperclassmen, both juniors. The rest of the roster includes four freshmen, four sophomores.

WHY PLAY 40 MINUTES? The final five minutes of games have been all but irrelevant for the Otter men's and women's basketball teams this season. The Otter men are 3–0 when leading after 35 minutes and 0–11 when trailing after 35 minutes. The women, meanwhile, are 4–0 when leading after 35 and 0–11 when trailing after 35.

60 SHALL BE THE NUMBER, NO LESS: With apologies to Monty Python, the number for the Otters shall be 60, not three. Following CSUMB's 54–50 loss Thursday versus UCSD, the Otters are now 0–47 when scoring fewer than 60 points against NCAA Division II opponents dating back to the 2004–05 season, their first at the NCAA Division II level. The last time the Otters scored fewer than 60 points and beat a Division II foe was a 54–53 decision over Cal Poly Pomona in The Kelp Bed on Jan. 29, 2005.

WE LOVE THE 80s: The 80s have usually been incredibly friendly territory for the Otters under Rob Bishop. The Nov. 12th 93–87 loss to Central Washington snapped a 7–game win streak when the Otters scored 80+ in regulation. CSUMB is 30–5 (.857) all–time under Bishop when scoring at least 80 in regulation.

60 SHALL BE THE NUMBER, NO LESS: With apologies to Monty Python, the number for the Otters shall be 60, not three. Following CSUMB's 66–59 loss at Cal Poly Pomona last season, the Otters are now 0–44 when scoring fewer than 60 points against NCAA Division II opponents dating back to the 2004–05 season, their first at the NCAA Division II level. The last time the Otters scored fewer than 60 points and beat a Division II foe was a 54–53 decision over Cal Poly Pomona in The Kelp Bed on Jan. 29, 2005.

The last time the Otters scored fewer than 60 points and beat any foe was their 50–47 win over Cal Poly on Nov. 18, 20
