SEASIDE, Calif. -- With a guarantee of a series win, the Cal State Monterey Bay baseball team looked for the series sweep in Sunday series finalé against UC San Diego. However, the Tritons had other ideas as UCSD came out hot scoring four runs in the top of the first inning, eventually handing the Otters a 1-7 loss.
CSUMB started
Ryan Boydstun (La Quinta HS) did not make it into the second inning after allowing four runs to the Tritons in the first inning. UCSD never looked back and got good pitching from their freshman starter Jonah Dipoto who threw five innings of 1-run ball.
The Otters got their run in the fourth inning on a
Hayden Duer (Davis HS) RBI double that scored
Kevin Davidson (Yucaipa HS) from first base. However, that would not be enough to catch UCSD as the Tritons tacked on three more runs in the sixth inning en route to the 7-1 win on get away day.
The Otters are now 28-14, 17-13 CCAA and are in second place in the CCAA North Division. Monterey Bay will face their final CCAA South Division opponent next weekend in Cal State San Marcos beginning on Saturday, April 30.
