SAN RAFAEL, Calif. -- The Cal State Monterey Bay men's basketball team battled in their season opener against Academy of Art on Friday evening. After a slow start, CSUMB bounced back in the second half and were in the postition to tie the game with a three pointer. Alex Fertig (Fresno, Calif./Buchanan HS) had the shot at the final buzzer, but it did not tickle the twine as the Otters fall 75-72.
Fertig led the Otters with 21 points while Ryan Nitz (Rancho Cucamonga HS) pitched in 14 points while Evan Zeller (Mission Viejo HS).

The otters were outscored in the first half by a score of 44-35, but fought back in the second outscoring the Urban Knights 37-31. The Otters also outrebounded Art U 33-32, but committed 17 turnovers to 12 assists.

Monterey Bay will play Dominican University tomorrow night at 7:30pm.
