No. 21 Otters Nipped By Toros 3-2 In Series Finale

CSUMB splits series with CSUDH at two games apiece

BOX SCORE CARSON, Calif. – Four errors haunted the No. 21 Cal State Monterey Bay baseball team Sunday afternoon as they fell 3-2 to split the series at Cal State Dominguez Hills in Carson.
 
CSUMB falls to 20-10 overall and 12-8 in CCAA play while the Toros improve to 15-14, 12-12 in conference action.
 
Senior Victor Rasor-Thompson (San Diego, Calif./Univ. of San Diego) was perfect at the plate, going 3-for-3 with a double, a run and a RBI.  Senior Brian Haggett (Hollister, Calif./West Valley College) had two hits and a RBI.
 
The Toros got on the board first in the opening inning.  Kevin Logan led off with a double, advanced on a sac bunt and scored on a Chris Allen single.
 
CSUMB took a brief lead in the third, scoring two runs on three hits.  Rasor-Thompson hit a RBI single to center, scoring Jesse Olson (Citrus Heights, Calif./Sierra College) who reached on a fielder's choice.  Rasor-Thompson stole second and then crossed home on a Haggett infield single to first.
 
CSUDH knotted it at 2-2 in the fourth on Danny Haley's two-out RBI single. 
 
Both teams got runners in scoring position numerous times in the next four innings but neither was able to score.
 
The Toros prevented an extra-inning game with a two-out swing by Haley that got past third baseman David Garcia that scored Allen from second base.
 
CSUDH's Sean Wardour tossed a complete game, allowing seven hits and two earned runs while striking out six batters.
 
Junior A.J. Quintero (Vacaville, Calif./Sacramento CC) (2-1) took the loss despite allowing only one hit and no earned runs in his 1 2/3 innings of work.  Starter Jordan Helmkamp (Aliso Viejo, Calif./Saddleback College) threw five innings, relinquishing nine hits and two runs.
 
The Otters conclude the month of March with a bye weekend and will host No. 24 Sonoma State April 5-7.
