Otters improve to 9-3 overall, 4-1 in conference

BOX SCORE SEASIDE, Calif. – Senior Victor Rasor-Thompson's (San Diego, Calif./Univ. of San Diego) RBI double broke the 1-1 tie in the seventh as the Cal State Monterey Bay baseball team earned a 2-1 series opener victory against visiting San Francisco State Friday afternoon.

The Otters improve to 9-3 overall and 4-1 in conference action while the Gators (3-9, 0-5 CCAA) continue to search for their first CCAA win.

Rasor-Thompson led CSUMB, going 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI. Senior Ronnie Fhurong (Hollister, Calif./San Benito HS) had two hits, including a double.

Starter Chris Daniels (Citrus Heights, Calif./Sierra College) (2-0) threw seven innings without relinquishing an earned run.  He gave up five hits while striking out four batters.  Closer A.J. Quintero (Vacaville, Calif./Sacramento CC) earned his second save after tossing a perfect ninth inning.

The Otters found themselves down 1-0 after the Gators took advantage of a CSUMB error in the fourth inning. CSUMB fired back with run in the bottom of the frame when pinch hitter Andres Coll (Panorama City, Calif./Arleta HS) scored on Jesse Olson's (Citrus Heights, Calif./Sierra College) sacrifice fly.

Rasor-Thompson's RBI double off the left center wall in the seventh was enough for CSUMB to clinch the win.

The Otters racked up 10 hits while leaving 12 on base compared to the Gators five hits and six stranded runners.

CSUMB travels to San Francisco Saturday, Feb. 23 for a doubleheader beginning at 11 a.m.
