BOX SCORE 1 | BOX SCORE 2 CHICO STATE, Calif. – Junior Jesse Olson (Citrus Heights, Calif./Sierra College) registered a team-high four hits as the Cal State Monterey Bay baseball team split with No. 4 Chico State in Monday's twinbill.
 
Olson concluded the day by driving in two runs and scoring two runs. Senior Jared DeCastro (Torrance, CAlif./LA Harbor College), junior Brian Haggett (Hollister Calif./Sacramento State) and freshman Chris Blanton (Burlingame, Calif./Burlingame) finished with three hits apiece.
 
Game 1: CSUMB 3, Chico State 2
 
The Wildcats took a 2-0 lead in the first inning with Cody Foster hitting a RBI triple and scoring on a sacrifice fly by Blake Gibbs.
 
CSUMB rallied in the fourth on two outs with Blanton and junior Tommy George (Elk Grove, Calif./Elk Grove) hitting back-to-back singles. Olson hit a 2 RBI single through the left side and then scored on DeCastro's hit that mirrored Olson's to give CSUMB its first lead of the game.
 
The Otters got solid pitching from starter Donny Medlinger (San Jose, Calif./Cal Poly SLO), Dylan Auker (San Jose, Calif./VCU) and Harold Zosel (Pleasanton, Calif./San Jose CC).  Medlinger racked up 10 strikeouts in his seven-innings to put him second in the CSUMB single game record books.  After Auker threw a hitless eighth inning, Zosel retired the side in the ninth to earn his second save of the series.

CSUMB and Chico State wrap up the four-game series tomorrow with a nine-inning contest beginning at 11 a.m. 
 
Game 2: Chico State 5, CSUMB 4
 
The Otters got on the board first, scoring a single run in the second inning.  Junior Jason Merjano (San Ramon, Calif./Sierra College) doubled down the left line to leadoff and advanced 90 feet on designated hitter Garrett Gemgnani's (Los Angeles, Calif./Culver City HS) single.  Merjano scored on Blanton's double play grounder.
 
CSUMB added to its lead with two runs in the next frame.  Nelson drew a walk and DeCastro followed with a single.  Haggett drove in Nelson on a single and DeCastro scored on a sacrifice fly by David Garcia (Gilroy, Calif./Mission College). 
 
The bottom half of the third inning proved costly for the Otters as Chico State scored four unearned runs on two CSUMB errors. Cody Webber hit a 2 RBI single and Eric Angerer followed with a 2 RBI double to give the Wildcats a 4-3 lead.
 
The Otters struck back in the fourth, balancing the game at 4-4 on DeCastro's sacrifice fly to bring Olson across the plate.
 
Chico State's Blake Gibbs hit a two-out walkoff single to score Ben Manlove. 
 
In his six innings of action, freshman Jeff Owen (Clovis, Calif./Clovis East HS) gave up no earned runs and struck out seven for a no decision.  Junior Jordan Helmkamp (Aliso Viejo, Calif./Saddleback College) took the loss after coming in relief in the seventh.
