SEASIDE, Calif. – The Cal State Monterey Bay baseball squad gave No. 9 Chico State a run in the series finale on Sunday, March 6 at Otter Baseball Field. CSUMB came up a bit short, falling to the Wildcats 6-3.
After facing two top 10 nationally rank teams to open California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) season, the Otters are 3-5 in conference action.
Junior #Danny Nelson# hit a 2-run home run over the left field wall to give the Otters a 2-0 lead in the first inning.
After four scoreless innings, Chico State's offense broke loose with four runs in the sixth.
After the Wildcats posted a run in their side of the frame, Nelson led off with a double in the seventh. Junior #Jared DeCastro# followed with a double to plate Nelson to close Chico State's lead to 5-3.
The Wildcats scored an insurance run in the final inning on a squeeze bunt with runners on second and third.
CSUMB returns to the field on Friday, March 11 at 2 p.m., hosting rival San Francisco State.
