SEASIDE, Calif. - The Cal State Monterey Bay pulled off their third sweep of the season to finish the month of September undefeated at the Kelp Bed, recording a 25-22, 27-25 and 25-18 victory over Cal State Dominguez Hills tonight.
The Otters improved to 9-1 overall and 6-1 against California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) opponents while the Toros dropped to 1-10, 1-5 in conference play.
"We've defended our home so far this season and our fans are growing, with a group of rowdies," said head coach #Jody Garry#. "Winners win and that brings fans and you can't manufacture it, so we earned it."
The match was highlighted by service aces with the Otters recording 10 on the night. Junior #Dionna Lucas# set a CSUMB record with six aces in just three sets.
Junior #Rheann Fall# led the Otters with 10 kills while Lucas finished with a team-high 13 digs.
The Otters will play eight of their 10 matches in October on the road, starting with a trip to Arcata on Friday, Oct. 1 to play Humboldt State. First serve is slated for 7 p.m.
"We just shut the door for September and it was amazing," Garry said. "We play well on the road so I am not concerned but it takes it toll on your body, your mind and your studies so it is going to be a bear, but we are ready."
