CHICO, Calif. – On Sunday afternoon, the Cal State Monterey Bay baseball team's seniors took the field one last time in an Otter uniform as they faced off with California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) competitor Chico State for the series closer at Nettleton Stadium. The Otters dropped game four, 12-3.
The senior Otters are: Infielders: #Ryan Chagonjian#, #Joey Friedman#, #Jacob Flores#; Outfielders: #Brent Sargenti#, #Jason Okamoto#, #Jerrod Krick#; and Pitchers: #Patrick McClain#, #Truett Hardin#, and #Justin Aguilera#.
Friedman went 2-for-3 on the day with a home run and one stolen base. Okamoto went 2-for-4 with one run scored.
In the first inning, Chico State capitalized on a CSUMB error that resulted in scoring on double to left field. The run was unearned.
Friedman homered to left field for the lone Otter run of the inning.
Striking back for Chico was Kevin Sever with a home run in the bottom of the second inning.
For the third consecutive inning, the Wildcats posted another run. This time combining three hits and one CSUMB error.
Flores came up clutch in the fourth, with a shot over the left field wall to give the Otters their second run of the game.
With the bases loaded, the Wildcats scored on a fielders choice to take a 4-2.
Freshman #Thomas George# singled down the right field line with two outs to bring in Okamoto, who reached via single through the left side.
With two on, the Otters gave up a home run, followed by back-to-back doubles to bring in another run to give the Wildcats a five-run cushion.
In the seventh, the Otters threatened when Friedman started it off with a single to right field. Okamoto followed with a single through the left side, advancing Friedman into scoring position. Chico State retired three straight to leave both runners stranded.
Chico State would score four more runs in the eighth, making the final score 12-3.
