SAN FRANCISCO - The Cal State Monterey Bay Otters baseball squad came from behind on the road at Maloney Field on three different occasions, none bigger than scoring four runs in the top of the ninth, before the Gators of San Francisco State pulled out the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) victory, 9-8, in the bottom of the frame with two outs.
Three seniors had two hits each, totaling three stolen bases, five runs and four runs batted in. They each made the most of their opportunities, all three leaving no one left on base. Senior #Jacob Flores# lead the team with two doubles, three RBIs, a walk and a steal.
The Gators got on the board first in the bottom of the first on a two-out RBI single to score one run.
CSUMB tied the score at one in the top of the fourth by manufacturing a run. Senior #Brent Sargenti# scored the run after drawing a walk, stealing second and advancing to third on a throwing error, finally scoring on a RBI ground out by freshman #Ronnie Fhurong#.
In the top of the sixth, CSUMB took a 3-1 lead thanks to the Fhurong, Sargenti combination again. Sargenti started the frame with a single, stole second and scored on an error by the third baseman on a Fhurong fielder's choice. Flores added another run by driving in Fhurong on a double down the right field line.
San Francisco State came storming back, scoring three unearned runs in the bottom of the inning on three consecutive hits.
The Otters tied it up on a single by Sargenti to score fellow Senior #Jason Okomoto# in the top of the seventh.
SF State pulled away in the bottom half of the frame, scoring four runs on four hits and an error.
However, in their last at-bats the Otters mounted a comeback, scoring four runs on four hits, highlighted by a two-out, two-RBI double by Flores to tie the game at eight.
Starting pitcher #Scott Tully# pitched six solid innings, allowing only one earned run, four unearned, while stranding five runners for the Gators.
