Otters Topple Academy of Art, 76-67

SEASIDE, Calif.
– The Cal State Monterey Bay men's basketball team recorded its third straight victory, registering a 76-62 win over Academy of Art University on Wednesday night in non-conference action.

“We were able to get a big lead tonight and stay in control the whole way through,” said head coach #Rob Bishop#. “This was a great win for us on the road.”

Sophomore #Davion Berry# poured in a team-high 23 points on 7-of-12 shooting from the field, while classmate #Brandon Ward# contributed 18 points, including 3-of-4 3-point baskets.  Berry and Ward each recorded three steals apiece. Senior #Warren Freeman# finished with seven points. Senior #Ian Hosford# pulled down six rebounds while dishing out four assists.

With the score knotted at 10 12 minutes into the game, the Otters went on a 13-0 run capped by a lay-up by Freeman.

CSUMB held a double-digit cushion lead for the remaining of the first half and took a 43-31 lead into the halftime break.

The Urban Knights cut the lead to 69-62 on a lay-up by William Overton Jr. with 2:18 remaining in the game.  The Otters made four of the next six free-throws to clinch the victory.

“We actually played very efficiently on the offense,” Bishop said. I was proud of our team effort tonight. If we continue to get better, we will get a few more of these.  

The Otters host NCAA Division I Southern Mississippi on Saturday, Dec. 11 at the Kelp Bed. Tip-off is 2 p.m.
