SEASIDE, Calif. – It was senior day at the Cal State Monterey Bay baseball team on Sunday, as the Otters hosted the Wildcats of Chico State in the season finale. CSUMB attempted late inning comeback, but fell 8-4 at the Otter Baseball Field.
The Wildcats jumped out to a four run lead in the first inning, highlighted by Kevin Seaver's 2 RBI double to left center field. Chico State added another run in the second off on a ground out by Kyle Eveland.
Chico State held an 8-0 lead into the bottom of the seventh inning when CSUMB recorded three runs. Junior #Jacob Flores# led off with single up the middle. Senior #Matt DeJesus# followed with a double to right field, his 15th of the season. After Flores scored on a wild pitch, senior #Steve Mays# singled up the middle to bring DeJesus across the plate. Freshman pinch hitter #Jordan Porcella-Smeds# hit a RBI double up the middle.
Senior #Daniel Barras#'s sacrifice fly drove in Mays who reached first base after being hit by a pitch.
DeJesus led the Otters with two hits, ending his senior season with a team-high .358 batting average and .561 slugging percentage.
Prior to the game, CSUMB honored their 2009 seniors; the program's first four-year class that consisted of #Norman Hebert#, #Daniel Barras# and #Michael Trump#. Also honored in the ceremony was #Shea Davis#, #Andrew Marquardt#, #Daniel Bifano#, #Steve Mays#, #Matt DeJesus#, #Thomas Incaviglia#, #Cody Guarnera# and #Brian Callen#.
