Game 1
Game 2
ROHNERT PARK, Calif. – The Cal State Monterey Bay baseball team were swept by Sonoma State in a non-conference doubleheader at Seawolf Diamond in Rohnert Park. The Otters fell 7-3 in game one, followed by a 9-0 shutout in the nightcap.
The Otters dropped to 1-2 as the Seawolves improved to 3-0.
The Otters got out to a promising start in game one, scoring a pair of runs in the fourth on a senior #Matt DeJesus# RBI double and a senior #Cody Guarnera# solo home run. The Seawolves would get on the board in the bottom of the fourth on a solo homer from Ryan Stevens before the Otters tacked on another run in the fifth to make it 3-1.
Sonoma State took the lead with a three-run sixth inning that was highlighted by a solo homer by Ian Bridges and a two-run shot off the bat of Leo Avila. Three more runs were added in the seventh thanks to a two-run single from Avila and an RBI double by Kris Haycock.
Senior #Norman Hebert# was quite effective in a starting role for the Otters, allowing just two runs in 5.1 innings. The bullpen gave up for five runs in the final two and a third.
For the Seawolves, Alberto Rolon allowed three runs in five innings. The win was credited to Kenny Cook, who allowed just one run in three innings of relief.
In game two, the Seawolves got out to a 2-0 start in the first inning. Home runs would follow off the bat of three Sonoma State players as the Seawolves ran away with the victory.
DeJesus had both of the Otters' hits in game two. Senior #Brian Callen# was charged with the loss after yielding five runs in 4.1 innings of action.
Sonoma State's Casey Slate pitched four strong innings to earn the win in the seven-inning game. He struck out four and allowed just three hits. Thomas Lee and Troy Brown finished off the game with a combined three shutout innings of work.
"The team played good enough to win the first game," said Otters head coach
Rich Aldrete. "But they didn't produce in the second game.
"DeJesus did well at the plate, going 4-for-8, and is now 6-for-10 on the year."
The Otters and Seawolves will close out the series tomorrow with another doubleheader, starting at 11:00 am.
