Senior Steve Mays extends CSUMB hitting streak record to fourteen games.

SEASIDE, Calif.
– Late innings continue to curse the Cal State Monterey Bay baseball team as they drop two games to the No. 25 UC San Diego Tritons on Saturday at Otter Baseball Field. Final scores were 5-2 and 4-3.

In the first game, leadoff batter #Shea Davis# hit a double to right center field in the first inning.  Back-to-back singles by junior #Ryan Chagonjian# and senior #Steve Mays# scored Davis.   Chagonjian later scored on a ground out by junior #Jacob Flores# to give the Otters a 2-0 lead. 

The Triton scored single runs in both the third and fourth to tie the game at 2-2. 

With two outs in the top of the ninth and runners on second and third, UCSD's Garrett Imeson blasted a triple to right center for two RBI giving the Tritons their first lead of the game, 4-2.  Sophomore Evan Kehoe followed with an RBI single for an insurance run, 5-2.

Chagonjian led the Otters with two hits in the opener.

In the nightcap, the Otters sprinted out to a 2-0 lead again.  Mays hit a two-run home run to left center, his third of season.  CSUMB added another run in the third when senior #Matt DeJesus# hit a RBI double.

The Otters held a 3-0 lead until the sixth inning when the Tritons scored a single run. 

In the seventh and final inning, UCSD scored three runs on one hit.

Senior #Andrew Marquardt# went 3-for-3 with a double to lead the Otters in game two.

Registering a hit in both games, Mays continues to extend the CSUMB hitting steak record to 14-games. 

CSUMB had strong pitching performances from both starting pitchers, #Norman Hebert# (8.1 IP, 4 R, 4 ER, 7 BB, 4 SO) and #Michael Trump# (5.1 IP, 5 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 1 SO).

The Otters (3-14, 0-4 CCAA) are back in action next week when they travel to Cal State San Bernardino in CCAA action for a four-game series beginning on Friday, Feb. 27.
