POMONA, Calif. – The Cal State Monterey Bay men's basketball team fell 79-60 to Cal Poly Pomona Friday at Kellogg Gym, dropping to 11-5 on the season and 5-4 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association. With the victory, the Broncos improved to 9-5 overall and 5-4 in conference action.
Seniors #Jose Sanchez# and #Dante Green# led the Otters in scoring with 13 and 12 points, respectively. Senior #Joe Mitchell# pulled down a team-high five rebounds, and senior #Steve Monreal# dished out four assists.
After junior #Sean Jergo#'s jumper 14 seconds into the game, the Broncos went on a 13-0 run. After trailing by as many as 15 in the first half, the Otters pulled within nine points at the 9:32 mark and traded baskets prior to the intermission. CPP held a 39-29 lead at the break.
Midway through the second half, the Broncos went on a 13-1 run to take their largest lead of the night, 63-38.
The Broncos were able to extend their lead to 25 in the second half, though the Otters did win the turnover battle in the second period, committing six turnovers to CPP's nine.
CPP had four players score double digits with Walter Thompson leading the way with 19 points.
The Otters continue their four-game road trip on Saturday, Jan 24, against Cal State San Bernardino. Tip-off at 7:30 p.m.
