SEASIDE, Calif. – Senior #Steve Monreal# scored a team-high 23 points to lead the Cal State Monterey Bay men's basketball team to a 73-56 victory over Academy of Art University on Monday, Nov. 24, at the Otter Sports Center. 

With the victory, CSUMB improves to 2-0 while the Urban Knights fall to 0-3.

Monreal went 10-for-13 from the field and racked up four steals and four assists. Senior #Joe Mitchell# recorded his second consecutive double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds. Senior #Jose Sanchez# finished with nine points. 

The Urban Knights were led by sophomore Phillip Samuel and freshman Marcus Crawford who had 15 points each.

The first half ended with 23-23 on the board. 

Five straight lay-ups by CSUMB to begin the second half gave the Otters a 33-24 lead. A pair of free throws pushed the run to 12-0.

The Otters shot 62.5 percent from the field in the second half to pull away from the Urban Knights.
CSUMB outrebounded AAU 36-26.

“We did not shoot well from the perimeter tonight, but we came out in the second half and created easy buckets in transition due to our defense,” said head coach Rob Bishop. “We took good shots tonight, but we just did not make them.”

 “Hopefully we can learn from this game and continue to get better,” he added. “It is time to get ready for Seattle Pacific and Concordia now. “
