The CSU Monterey Bay Otters lost back-to-back games against Chico State on Saturday. The Otters dropped the first game 10-2 and the second seven-inning game 9-4 to fall to 6-14, 3-8 in the CCAA.
The Wildcats (18-1,6-1 CCAA) jumped out to a 5-0 lead by the third inning, and then stopped any Otter rally attempt cold with a five-run 8th inning, including two home runs. Grayson Adams pitched seven innings and had 4 strikeouts, while his Chico State counterpart Billy Spottiswood went eight innings, allowing six hits and struck out seven to get the win.
The second game started out bad for the Otters as they allowed five runs in the first inning and two in the second. CSUMB rallied with four runs in the second with two outs, but only had one hit the rest of the game. The Otter defense held the Wildcats at bay with some stellar diving, but a Robby Scott's solo homer and Carl Fairburn's sacrifice fly gave the Wildcats two insurance runs. Ross Hoffman went 2-3 with an RBI in the second game and went 4-6 on the day.
